Passive Sills - Window sills and moulded profile sections - 1 m length of Standard Oversill
Technical purpose of product or process This EPD is carried out for Passive Sills’ window sill and moulded profile sections. The main raw materials are EPS blocks, polyol, sand and resins. The sills and profiles have obtained Agrément Certification from National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) in 2018 and the British Board of Agrément (BBA) in 2019. 3.1 Manufacturing Process The sills and profiles are manufactured in the Passive Sill manufacturing plant in Youghal, Co. Cork, Ireland. The required sill or moulding profile section is cut from a solid EPS block. The unused EPS off-cuts from the block are compacted and sent off-site for recycling into further products. The cut sections of EPS block are then coated with a mix of resin and sand, and then heated in an oven to bake the coating on to the cut section. When the coating mix has hardened, the section is taken from the oven and cut to the desired lengths. Electricity is used to power the cutting, off-cut compactor, coating, and controlling the oven. Diesel oil is used to heat the baking oven. A1. Raw materials supply This module considers the extraction and processing of all raw materials and energy which occur upstream to the Passive Sills manufacturing process, as well as waste processing up to the end-of waste state. A2. Transport of raw materials to manufacturer This includes the transport distance of the raw materials to the manufacturing facility via road, boat and/or train. A3. Manufacturing This module covers the manufacturing of Passive Sills products and includes all processes linked to production such as, mixing, packing and internal transportation. Use of electricity, fuels and auxiliary materials used during production is taken into account as well. The weight of shrinkwrap used in 2019 is 0.15% of the total weight of product produced in 2019. Thus for this analysis the impact of shrinkwrap packaging is not included.
General comment on data set Data flows have been modeled as realistically as possible. Data quality assessment is based on the principle that the primary data used for processes occurring at the production site is selected in the first instance. Where this is not available, other reference data is selected from appropriate sources. Methodology and reproducibility The process descriptions and quantities in this study are reproducible in accordance to the reference standards that have been used. The references of all sources, both primary and public sources and literature, have been documented in the LCA report. In addition, to facilitate the reproducibility of this LCA, a full set of data records has been generated which can be accessed via the Ecochain tool. This data portfolio contains a summary of all the data used in this LCA, and correspondingly, in the Passive Sills Ecochain account.
